Windsurfing CaboVerde - The Guide

We have been living here in Sal Island (Cabo Verde) for more than 7 years. During all these years, we have surfed and windsurfed many perfect waves, alone or with just a few friends. Discovering these waves was such a gift!

But we also have been the witnesses of the explosion of Cabo Verde as a tourism and windsurfing destination. As a direct consequence, spots are becoming more and more crowded.

Nobody likes crowed spots, especially when you have known them empty and unspoiled. Unfortunately, there is no way to get back to this early time. Also, even if we all know that mass tourism spoils and has so many bad side effects, we also know that ultimately there is some good for Cabo Verde and thus for Caboverdians.

The fact is that the large majority of windsurfers coming to Sal are either going to stay free-riding in Santa Maria or getting knocked out at PontaPreta. These 2 spots are becoming over-crowded, while in the meantime many great spots are empty, with something to offer for everyone’s different skills.

So, instead of chickening in Santa Maria’s bay or risk your life (or others’) in PontaPreta, why don’t you explore these great spots? The session of your life is probably there, just a few miles away.

The idea behind this guide is not to give you all the information for each spot, but rather to give you the desire to go away from the crowd, discovering your own perfect wave. That’s the goal of a windsurfing trip, isn’t it?

Let us be your guides to enjoy Sal’s diversity!
